Interview with a Hacker

November 29th, 2009 by Shadow received 4 Comments »

I was reading stuff online for a fix for an issue I came across at work, and found a blog post that I found interesting. I think it is pretty accurate to say for most young hackers, that they believe hacking is just a game, a pastime like baseball or football. For those that get hacked, it can be devastating, and for those of us that have to clean up after them, it can be a chore.

I was very impressed by the reaction of the person who’s site was hacked as well as the hacker in this blog post as neither one acted the way I would expect. Most hackers I catch tend to be rather arrogant, but then it could be because I am ending their ‘fun’. Here is the link to the blog is below. The Next Web Blog

    Eh.. using a vulnerability to gain access to a site is far from ‘hacking’. Sure, it is a form of hacking, but it’s not anything amazing when you can use Google to hack a site. He most likely used a vuln. that was posted on another website, not found by him or his team. Most people that have been interviewed for hacking, or try to get into the spotlight for what they did aren’t actual hackers. The people that do the real stuff stay unknown, they know what they did, they don’t need the spotlight on them to prove it.

    As for this vulnerability, it most likely came from: http://www.milw0rm.com

    Btw, hai Josh!

    It is true that the kid in the article is just a script kiddie, but for most people who get hacked, it doesn’t matter how it happened, just that it did.
    $script_kiddie < $cracker < $Hacker && $script_kiddie <> $Hacker;
