Google Buzz, Twitter’s Funeral Procession?

February 10th, 2010 by Shadow received 4 Comments »

So I have started using google buzz, the new social service from google, and I have to say, I like it a lot. I first found out about it when google maps updated on my Android OS phone, and mentioned the me “Google Buzz” Feature. So while I was out for sushi last night I posted a comment about how great the sushi is. Now at first I had no clue what was going to happen, but when I woke up this morning I found several messages regarding my post. Now how this is an improvement over twitter is two fold:

First – I can set a comment for a location, it then is visible on google maps, for anyone to see, on google maps via their cell phone, or via google.com/buzz

Second – This is Powered by Google. I highly doubt they are going to have the “fail whale”-itis… and it integrates with all my other google services, awesomeness.

I think I hear the fat lady warming up in the background for twitter…

So what is your take on google buzz? Is it going to be the Twitter Killer? Post Comments below.

Did we really need another Twitter? Its bad enough we have one.

Google needs to stop being like Microsoft and just do it's own ideas instead of ruining other peoples with their huge framework of API just so they can slap their name on it. :( Starting to get disappointed in Google.

On a side note, your new comment box name/email/site boxes are messed up, text is white too can't see what you typed unless you highlight it.

Strange, I am not having that issue, it may have been a bug, or someone at disqus messed with their CSS again.

Anyway, Twitter had a great idea, I will give them that, but they have shown on several occasions that they can't keep up. When they built the service, they didn't plan for it to scale very well, and that is why stuff like Twitter's 'suggested users' has been under fire. I won't even get into the 'fail whale' again.

I agree that google has gotten rather large, and I do foresee them becoming the next Microsoft, even with their mantra of “do-no-harm”. That is why I still look for something that is better, waiting and watching, because when David becomes Goliath, a new challenger will arise and the process will start again.
